I begin by telling you one of my favorite movies is Under the Tuscan Sun. Not just because of the great cast, scenery, and story but more important it hit home. I was partnered for 13 years and we split in 2012. After that I said to myself you need to take a romantic trip to Tuscany and invite yourself; that is what I did. I needed to find me in a place I had never been and do it alone. It was an absolutely an amazing experience, the old village, the locals and finding me. I experienced a life changing event that has allowed me to be comfortable with me. I am ok alone and do not need to be anxious about finding a partner but rather let that partner find me.
I had done some research, but not much on purpose as the reason for going was to be surprised and to learn on my own, and realized the village was over 1000 years old. After arriving and exploring on my own as well as mingling with the locals along with my I translate app, I soon learned the village was over 3000 years old and settled by the Etruscan Tribe. A more fascinating find and it opened up an entire new venture for me exploring the local museum to see and hear the history as well as visiting the actual tombs. A beautiful culture filled with color and brilliance before the Romans.
More amazing was the fact that the villa Easy Reserve had arranged for me was in fact built into this 3000 year old rock where the hierarchy of the tribe resided. The energy was amazing and I was in awe of it all.
Within an hours drive is some of the most fabulous peaceful views and villages of the Grosseto region of Tuscany. Montemerano is a beautiful village built in the shape of a heart and housing one of the most stunning cathedrals you will ever witness. Sorano is a another charming place on an extended tuff relief overlooking the River Lente where history speaks to you as you walk thru it. I met a wonderful wine shop owner and had marvelous Reggiano cheese, Prosciutto and red wine I have ever had. Twice I returned for more. The owner and I bonded and I left with a bag full of fantastic treats.
Sovana is a wonderful small flat village dating back to the 11th century and housing the duomo dating back the 8th century. Pope Gregorio VII from the 10th century led the church and lived in the village.
I will leave the rest to your own exploration but will tell you do not miss the Terme Saturnia Spa and Mineral water outdoor swimming pool for the resort. A treat and so romantic; I know and will leave it at that.
The best find was the local organic wines, drink up and no headache.
What I came to realize is how easy it is to appreciate the local residents so much that you want to speak with them in their language and that I did. A bond began and when I left my three older Italian women I passed every morning, to say "Buongiorno" and every evening to say "Buonasera", invited me over to say goodbye and shed a tear asking me to come back and they would cook for me. How more beautiful can it be than that?
And yes I will be back!
I will tell you I realize the Italians are a simple and happy people. It brought me peace and a smile.
Like all who travel and allow someone else to make the arrangements, we have in the back of our mind a picture of what we are expecting and are those expectation realistic or wishful thinking. Easy Reserve delivered beyond what I could have imagined. The pictures they sent to me did not even do the villa justice, the answers to all of my questions(and they will tell you that I had many with some rather odd requests) and handled my OCD and ADHD very well. I did not need medication after our conversations but they may have. When I called I received answers or a call back with answers; when I could not get my personal representative someone was always willing to help, and they did it with grace and professionalism. Will I use them again? ABSOLUTELY and will I recommend them? ABSOLUTELY.
Regards,
MR
