Charming stone farmhouse dating back to the 14th century set on a 4-hectare farming estate decorated with plants, olive trees and orchards. The villa, which was tastefully restored with most of its original architectural features and its ancient charm preserved, is quietly located and offers beautiful views over the surrounding landscape. The interiors are nicely decorated in a rustic style.
The villa offers large outdoor areas which are ideal to enjoy close contact with nature and to relax. A nice swimming-pool set in panoramic location is available. The location allows to easily reach beautiful towns of Umbria like Perugia, Assisi, Gubbio, Città di Castello.
The access to the property is via unpaved but well-maintained road.
Distances: the small town Agello with all kinds of shops 1,5 km away, the shore of Lake Trasimeno (water-sport facilities) about 7 km, Perugia (with daily trains to Rome) 12 km away, the famous medieval town Cortona about 25 km, Assisi about 30 km. Florence is approx. 130 km away. A golf course, a tennis court and horse-back riding facilities are within 10 km. Excellent restaurants offering dishes of the local tradition are available in the area surrounding the villa. Bus stop with busses for Perugia about 300 m from the villa away.
At guests' disposal: large, terraced garden (5.000 m2) offering beautiful views over the valley below, swimming-pool (9 x 4 m - open from 15/05 to 15/09), 2 furnished gazebos, table-tennis, games for children, barbecue, bread-oven, volley-ball ground, small basket ground. A small charming church adjoining the villa has been completely restored and offers a nice play and relax area. Fly screens on all windows. Telephone. WI-FI internet connection (free of charge). Bath-towels for the swimming-pool available on request (free of charge).
Extra services: Maid service available by arrangement (€ 10,- / per hour payable locally). Baby cot available with extra charge of € 52,- / per week to be paid on the spot. Cook service for excellent meals based on Umbrian recipes available by arrangement (to be paid on the spot).

Lake Trasimeno

Lake Trasimeno is one of the most beautiful lakes on the Italian peninsula. It lies just over the border of Tuscany near Cortona, and dominates the northwestern part of Umbria.

The lake is surrounded on three sides by the hills that are so common throughout the region, with a lowland stretching out from the west of the lake. Olive groves dot the hills surrounding the area, and hills nearest Tuscany also grow many grapes, along with other fruits and vegetables. The climate here is warmer that the other hills surrounding the lake, as they are at a lower elevation. Portions of the shores are covered in many older pines, willows and poplars; many of them over 30m tall.

The towns on the lake are all rather small in population. Some of the notable ones are Passignano sul Trasimeno, Tuoro, Monte del Lago, Torricella, San Feliciano, San Arcangelo, Castiglione del Lago, and Borghetto. Castiglione del Lago is probably the most well known as its the largest peninsula onto the lake and has the largest shoreline by far. The water of Trasimeno remains very clean, with very few large farms and a small population living on the lake it has been able to avoid some of the modern problems.

A trip to Tuscany wouldn’t be complete without a visit to one of the biggest and most majestic castles in the region, The Rocca di Pierle in the Cortona area, beside the village of Pierle. The ruins of this magnificent structure still stand tall over Val di Pierle and many of its walls are still intact! Visitors would thoroughly enjoy a close up view of the castle and could stay in one of many farmhouse accommodation in the Cortona area for a day or two while they explore this beautiful area with a nice selection of historical and cultural activities to engage in.

This area was once a very important district of Etruscan civilisation where a powerful king called Porsenna was buried. Visitors wishing to stay here for a few days have plenty of beautiful villas in Chiusi that are located nearby to this site. Porsenna was buried in an elaborate tomb within a complex labyrinth in an Etruscan burial site close to Chiusi.

Legend tells the story of his sarcophagus being laid to rest in a golden carriage guarded by golden statues of twelve horses, a brood hen and five thousand chicks, also made of gold. It is thought that this labyrinth was once part of ancient aqueduct system and dates back as far as 600BC.

The Villa Uccellaia was the perfect stay! Beautiful area, quiet surroundings. The area felt safe. No traffic close to the property. The kids loved the pool, play area and the church were they had lots of fun. The sitting areas around the house were all very nice but we found our favorite spot. We were two families with three little boys.
The care taker, Roberto was very helpful. Took care of the garden and pool every morning.
We would love to come back one day.
