You will love this beautiful historic 130-year-old 2 level Tuscan villa/farmhouse of 250 sq. meters. The villa is perched on a hilltop, with views over the charming village of Lari and its medieval castle. It is in the heart of Tuscany, a 20 minute drive from Pisa, with a swimming pool, a tennis court, olive trees, and a romantic gazebo seating eight with breathtaking panoramic views - where you can watch glorious sunsets with a glass of Prosecco - barbecues, all on large terraced grounds with olive trees, surrounded by a small forest.

A 400-meter gravel road is the approach to the entrance with an electric gate. A Siena-red road lined with Cyprus trees leads to the house sitting on about 2 hectares of landscaped undulating land full of wild flowers, fruit trees and herbs, all available to you.

The patio in front is a great place for breakfast or drinks under the large umbrella, and around the corner, the garden, has a large oak-wood table with bench style seating for twelve or more with a barbecue nearby.

Behind the house is a pond with space for croquet and badminton (equipment provided) and higher up, on top, the gazebo with breathtaking panoramic views.

The uniquely positioned secluded swimming pool is also on top and a rustic pool house nearby with kitchen, fridge, coffee maker and a second barbecue at the edge of a small forest, which is part of the property. Once you are up there, you will just want to stay.

Below the house is the private tennis court (synthetic grass). Racquets and balls are provided.

Everything is provided, like sheets, towels, hairdryers, shower gel, washing powder, etc.
Centrally located in Tuscany, it is close to all amenities, 20 minutes from Pisa airport, 45 minutes from Florence, 30 minutes from Lucca and 40 minutes from the beaches of Forte dei Marmi and Viareggio.

There are lots of concerts nearby: Lucca Music Festival, Pistoia Blues Festival, the Puccini Festival, etc...

Car hire is recommended.

Interior Description

The ground floor is an open space with original arches and high ceilings: a large living room with antique pieces mixed with contemporary furnishings, a den with a flat screen TV and a fireplace, a dining room seating eight, a large kitchen with the best appliances including dishwasher, a walk-in pantry and a stunning bathroom with a marble sink.

Original stone stairs lead upstairs to four bedrooms: a large master bedroom with a queen size bed, a second bedroom with an en-suite bathroom and queen size bed. You have a choice of two single beds or one double in the third bedroom. The fourth bedroom has a double bed and a terrace with a view of Lari. The third bathroom has blue hand-made tiles is just outside the bedrooms.
The house has 3 satellite TV and WiFi internet in all rooms.
The small external laundry room has a high-end washer and dryer.

Fellow cherry lovers who are planning on booking a villa in Tuscany this May (or any other May) will definitely want to make note of the town of Lari in the province of Pisa. Home to the delicious PGI cherry of Lari, this pretty walled medieval town, perched overlooking rolling Tuscan hills and surrounded by cypresses and lush greenery, is very typically Tuscan and utterly charming in its own right. However, come on the last two weekends of this month (May 25th to the 26th and May 31st to the 2nd of June) and you’ll not only be able to enjoy the beauty of the town but also sample her protected, famous cherries, and experience the celebrations!

Lari is a small hilltop village located around 30 km from Pisa, that is thought to have been founded by the Etruscans. Its most distinctive feature is the castle that sits at the centre of the village and looks out over the whole area. Most of the present day castle dates back to the first half of the 17th century but records show that a castle has stood in the area since before 1200. It was an incredibly important military stronghold of the Pisan Republic and was caught up in the disputes between Pisa and Florence. When the Florentines took over in 1406, it became the residence of the vicars and was installed with a court room, prison and torture chamber. The prison was enlarged in the 18th century and remained in use until 1934. It was only in 1991, that the Municipality of Lari began restoring the castle and it was then opened to the public as a historic tourist attraction.

As one might imagine, a history filled with punishment, crime, death and torture has lead to a history of ghost stories and the town, at large, is also steeped in some spooky tales. Lari Castle is said to be haunted by the spirit of Giovanni Princi, a man who found hanging in his prison cell in 1922 after being jailed for his political views.

About 30km south of Pisa, you will find the pretty little Tuscan village of Lari. With medieval origins, it is dominated by the mighty fortress, the Castello dei Vicari (known as Vicari Castle or Lari Castle in English), which is perched as the crowning glory of the village. However, do not be lead astray by its pretty, if somewhat unusual, appearance, as it hides a long history of horror and hauntings within its walls. In the Middle Ages, it was under the control of the Republic of Pisa and then, in 1406, it came into the possession of the Florentine Vicari family, it was a prison, then it was home to Florentine vicars until halfway through the 19th century, then it was a jail again, and, finally, it came into the ownership of the Municipality of Lari, who restored it and opened it to the public.
