An example that we have been admiring lately is the extraordinary seven-bedroom and seven-bathroom Villa Staggia, located 13km (8 miles) from Poggibonsi and 24km (15 miles) from Siena in green and leafy private grounds that overlook lush fields and rolling hills so typical of this magical region.

Visit the small grim Strozzavolpe castle near Poggibonsi in the province of Siena in Tuscany and learn about the huge array of eerie myths and legends that envelop it! Visitors wishing to stay in the Poggibonsi area for a few days have a fine selection of great holiday rentals available to them.

There are tales of countless ghosts that haunt the walls of this thousand year old castle but two in particular stand out. One is the story of when the castle was being constructed. A wild animal, described as looking like a huge fox or wolf is said to have terrorised the builders and the castle owner, called Bonifacio.

He was outraged that this creature was causing such a disruption and planned to get his revenge. He strangled the creature with a rope and buried its body within the foundations of the castle. It’s believed that the castle got its name from this grisly tale as it's called Strozzavolpe and the Italian translation of fox is ‘volpe’. Many locals have claimed to have heard the howling of this doomed creature at night as it seeks revenge on Bonifacio for killing it.

Chianti is the perfect place to relax, unwind and recover. The rolling hills, blanketed in vineyards and olive groves and capped by medieval hilltowns, make for the most idyllic of settings. Unique Souvenirs And A Stunning Museum In Colle Di Val D'Elsa

Located in the Province of Siena,Colle di Val d’Elsa is a pretty medieval town that is not far from the historic via Francigena and was, therefore, a pit-stop for travellers and pilgrims for centuries. Like many cities in Tuscany, it was once a centre of artistic and artisanal production but, unlike most of its neighbours, remains that way to this day. It continues to be the Italian capital of crystal and, as such, has been nicknamed the “Bohemia of Italy.” In fact, Colle di Val d’Elsa accounts for 95% of all Italian crystal glass production and 14% of the global production of crystal, which is an incredible feat.

Due to this scale and the economic importance of the craft in the town, it remains central to life for locals, with the first Sunday of each month playing host to a crystal market in town and open-air demonstrations of glass-making (from around 3pm) in the historical centre of the city on Via della Misericordia. In addition, there is also a rather special museum dedicated to the craft, the Museum of Crystal of Colle di Val d'Elsa, which puts these incredible objects on display. Appartement grand et propre, désuet, lits spacieux et assez confortables. La piscine est grande avec une super vue sur la vallée toscane. Par contre elle était propre à notre arrivée et n’a été nettoyé de nouveau qu’au bout de 5 jours, ce qui est long.

An sich ist die Gegend sehr schön und die Lage toll für die Städte Siena, Florenz, Pisa.
Wir sind bis Pienza und Montepulciano gefahren.
Aber die Ausstattung und das Niveau der Wohnung ist leider sehr bescheiden. Die Betten sind furchtbar. Sehr durchgelegen, oder man spürt jede Feder und die Moskitonetze helfen nicht wirklich vor den Mücken.
Es gab noch nicht mal eine Zitronenpresse, eine Platte vom Herd ging nicht.
Dafür war der Pool sehr schön und ganz nah. Das Frühstück haben wir einmal in Anspruch genommen. Das war vorzüglich.
Die Straße/Eher Feldweg zur Unterkunft hoch ist sehr holprig und nicht für alle Fahrzeuge geeignet. Unser Auto war nachher extrem staubig, aber das scheint in der Gegend normal zu sein.
Wenn man für 2-3 Tage eine Unterkunft braucht, ist es ok. 10 Tage würde ich dort nicht mehr verbringen.

L’appartement est très bien, même si l’équipement de la cuisine est assez sommaire. Les ventilateurs aux plafonds sont très efficaces et permettent d’échapper aux grosses chaleurs de la nuit. La douche est très ancienne et entartrée. Ils avons dû demander à ce que le pommeau soit changé. Les extérieurs manquent d’entretien. Il n’y avait pas d’éclairage extérieur lorsque nous sommes arrivés, nous empêchant de manger dehors le soir. L’éclairage a été toutefois changé deux jours après suite à notre demande. Le petit déjeuner est passable, avec des produits malheureusement premier prix, malgré un gâteau fait maison. Plusieurs chaises et bancs sont en mauvais état. La piscine est parfaite, il est très surprenant que le propriétaire s’entête à demander le port du bonnet de bain (il vient d’ailleurs surveiller que les vacanciers le portent et fait des remarques) alors que personne cette semaine ne l’a porté ????. Une honte qu’il essaie d’en vendre à 5€ l’unité. Nous n’avons jamais vu une telle règle ailleurs en toscane. Bizarre. Autre règle, la piscine ferme à 19h, surprenant alors qu’il fait très chaud et que c’est une bonne heure pour se rafraîchir. Malgré ces quelques points négatifs facilement gommés avec un peu de volonté, l’endroit a un potentiel incroyable et est très bien situé. Enfin, un grand merci à la dame qui gère les vacanciers. Elle est très réactive, à l’écoute et efficace.

Wir hatten eine wundervolle Zeit in wundervollem Ambiente. Die Unterkunft war grundsätzlich einfach, aber das hat super gepasst! Der Pool mit seinem Ausblick war einfantastischer Platz mit sehr guter Atmosphäre - so wie man sich Toskana vorstellt! Die Dame an der Rezeption war auch sehr hilfsbereit und freundlich. Für Abwechslung hat auch die Tischtennisplatte gesorgt. Poggibonsi ist ein nettes kleines Städtchen - wir haben uns sehr wohlgefühlt in diesem liebevoll und gepflegten Anwesen.

The property is beautiful. The pool is wonderful. The apartment is lacking. It has loose toilet seats, and sub par bathrooms. Also, since it has a functional kitchen, it would have been nice to have had some dish soap, salt and pepper and perhaps a sponge to wash dishes and a trash bag or two. We had to purchase all staples for a one week stay.

The weather was very hot. We did not expect air conditioning, but a fan would have been a welcomed addition. Some of the rooms were stifling.

The owner is friendly and so is the staff.

The setting for this property is incredible. It feels like you are miles away from the world on a hilltop in Tuscany but it is actually about 5-min from town and a major grocery. We stayed here in June 2018. Had an absolutely amazing time. The apartment was charming and comfortable, with everything you could need for a short stay. The grounds are breathtaking, with lush green hills all around and a lovely pool with amazing views. The pictures on the listing don't do this place justice. From this location you can make day trips to places like Pisa, Luca, Livorno, San Gimignano, and even Cique Terre. Nicoletta, Sonia and Guillermo were a pleasure to meet! All around great spot. We had a wonderful week at Tenuta Il Tresto. I wanted to stay in Tuscany but preferred not to drive. I chose Poggibonsi as a central town to many others from which we could travel to by bus or train. This worked very well, however I must say my friend and I are walkers. Tenuta Il Tresto is about 30 minutes walk from the train station, and is on a hill so going down was easier. It is fine if you have a car and the roads were good and the traffic not nearly as bad as I experienced on the coast in Italy previously.
Our stay was fantastic. Host Gabriel collected us from the train station and showed us around.
The apartment is rustic, not high on mod-cons, but has everything you need. Two spacious double bedrooms, a living area, bathroom and a kitchen where we cooked on a few nights. Breakfast was offered in the dining room in another building which was beautiful. A buffet continental breakfast, and the lovely Nicoletta made omelettes to order, and great coffee. We had this a few mornings. We also had a lovely dinner there on our first night which can be done by arrangement. Laundry facilities are available for a small charge.
The grounds are beautiful, everything I dreamed of in a Tuscan property – various old buildings set amongst gorgeous gardens, vineyards, olive trees, fruit trees and a pool.
We travelled to Florence, Siena, San Gimignano and Monteriggioni, all day trips by train or bus, or could be done by car. The town of Poggibonsi, despite being bombed during World War 2, still retains some of its old buildings, and was good to walk around.
Gabriel and Nicoletta were very friendly and welcoming hosts. (We didn’t meet Martina).Gabriel took us back to the train station when we left, dropped us at a restaurant one night when we couldn’t get a taxi – and if you need one try Gianni on 0039 339 4497 423 – a very helpful taxi driver who spoke English. Also Marco 0039 339 899 8667.
We dined out in Poggibonsi twice – one night we tried to go to Osteria da Camillo, which was recommended to us, but it was closed so we went to the bar/restaurant opposite it. I can’t remember its name but it was very nice. We also had an amazing night at Al Cassero Osteria which is set in a castle on a hill. The food was fantastic, the staff so friendly and helpful, great views – our best meal while we were away- very special.
I highly recommend Tenuta Il Tresto. We did not want to leave.

I stayed in Tenuta Il Tresto mid September 2016 with my family and we were very pleased with our stay. Gabrio and Sophie was excellent in making us feel welcome and we recieved lots of advice on what to go and see in order to make the best of our stay. The pool was awesome and the morning breakfast buffet had most everything. I would recommend this place to anyone.
