In Florence, visit Museo Casa Buonarroti where example of some of his early work is displayed. See ‘The Battle of the Centaurs’ and ‘Madonna della scala’ which demonstrate the awesome talent of the young sculptor. This interesting collection of creativity is situated on the corner between Via Ghibellina and Via Buonarroti.

Michelangelo’s most famous masterpiece came in the form of a superb marble statue of a strong nude man titled ‘David’. It’s located at the Galleria dell ‘Accademia, in Piazza san Marco and earned Michelangelo a seat among the masters of the Renaissance. His close attention to the male form and the realistic impressions this talented man could carve out from marble is astounding.

If you’re passing through the city of Siena on your Tuscan touring trail then why not pay a visit to the Duoma where Michelangelo sculpted four superb statues, including one of St. Paul that is said to greatly resemble the artist himself!

He was also a great painter and an example of one of his most famous paintings is hung in the Uffizi Gallery in Piazza della Signoria. It’s titled ‘Tondo Doni and is a magnificent circular painting of the Holy Family. Of course, his greatest painting feat can be seen at the Sistine Chapel in Rome where biblical scenes were created by him all across the ceiling and walls.
