Spend A Relaxing Time At The Stunning Porta Lake In Tuscany!

forte dei marmi beach
On the northern coast of Tuscany lies the scenic Porta Lake. Now a protected nature reserve, this glorious example of undisturbed beauty is a treat for the senses!

Porta Lake was once connected to Massaciuccoli Lake when this area of land was mainly marshland before a large draining system was introduced here to reclaim land for growing vegetation.

Those wishing to visit this peaceful paradise can stay in a holiday villa with excellent reviews in Forte dei Marmi. Porta Lake is home to a rare species of the heron bird, called a Bitten and an endangered butterfly called a Lycaena dispar.

It’s a perfectly peaceful haven for wildlife and is the ideal backdrop for some stunning photographs. Nature lovers will enjoy nestling somewhere out of sight around the lake with a pair of binoculars and just watching nature unfold. Perhaps they may catch a glimpse of some of these rare creatures!

For those that wish to explore the beauty of other nearby nature reserves, visit the Versiliana Park. It’s very popular among locals and tourists alike and is home to several spectacular types of landscape. It includes some of the last marsh areas in Tuscany, forested areas with walking trails networked through them and quaint lakes and trickling streams dotting the areas. There is an abundance of wildlife here and is the perfect place for one to fully immerse themselves in nature.

If you’re lucky enough to be here during the summer months then you can get involved in the exciting Festival della Versilia nearby that lasts the entire summer and is based around a magnificent theatre bordered by a pine forest in the countryside.

Enjoy a colourful array of music, dance and theatre performances as well as a chance to try some of the local street food and delicious rustic Tuscan dishes. Visit the festival website for more information.

Visit the pine factory here that nestled within the trees that once had a thriving business of harvesting the pine cones and exporting the pine nuts all over Europe. Visitors can walk around all the old machines that are now on display and learn about this intriguing process. Entrance is free.

Porta Lake and the surrounding area has so much to offer you so why not take a day or two during your next holiday here to fully explore and enjoy it!
