The Bravio delle Botti in Montepulciano is an exciting barrel rolling race that takes place on the last Sunday of August. The different districts or contrade of Montepulciano compete against each other for victory by rolling 80kg barrels uphill for approximately 1800 metres along the main street of the town.
This challenging barrel race concludes with the winning team crossing the finish line in Piazza Grande.
A fun street festival takes place here afterwards with lots of music, dancing, laughter and of course, long tables full of delicious food. The Bravio delle Botti dates as far back as 1373 and was in fact originally a horse race! Come and see this mesmerising event for yourself!
A lively crossbow competition takes place in the town of Massa Marittima across two dates. The first is in late May and the second takes place on the second Sunday of August. It’s great fun to watch and perhaps you can have a go at hitting some targets yourself!
