Gaiole in Chianti is a medieval town full of history and character. It was an important market place where people from neighbouring towns in Chianti and the neighbour district of Valdarno (Valley of the Arno River) came together.
Several castles and monuments still guard this precious area of Tuscany. Be sure to see the Castle of Vertine, an unusual dark sandstone coloured fortress that is now a B&B.
