Discover The Fascinating Caves Of Equi Terme!

Town of Equi Terme
Come to the area of Equi Terme and explore three of its amazing caves! This nature park in the Apuan Alps is an extremely popular spot with tourists.

Why not stay in a gorgeous villa with swimming pool in Fivizzano, only a few kilometres away from Equi Terme. Here you can relax in the afternoon and evenings after few thrilling explorations of the surrounding area.

Walk through the lit up passageways and tunnels within the caves that open up into dazzling galleries, full of stalactites and stalagmites hanging from the roof and rising up from the ground. It’s alot like an eerie museum of oddly shaped statues and is truly a fascinating sight to behold!

The three caves are called La Buca, Le Grotte and La Tecchia and are well worth a day’s exploration if you’re passing through this beautiful part of Tuscany. These caves were once home to an earlier species of human called Neanderthals as well as animals.

Remnants of tools made from bones have been found here and lots of evidence to help document a fascinating insight into what life was like here. La Tecchia cave is of particular interest as it seems to have been converted from a living space to a type of burial ground. Tourists can learn about this by booking a walking tour led by a historical expert.

Here there is also a scenic trail through a naturally formed canyon. What’s unusual about this place is the rare and wonderful opportunity to see the infamous insect eating plants that grow and thrive here!
Stalagmite
This protected area is open between July and September all week between 10.30am and 7pm. It can also be visited between October and April upon prior reservation at the local tourist office by ringing this number: +39 0585 927111-948258-948269.

Tours are available in Italian, English, German, French and Dutch and two types are available, varying in duration. Adult entry costs either €5 or €8.50 and for kids between the ages of 6-10, either € 2.50 or €4.50
