Hannibal Lecter
Florence has been home or setting to many novels, films and television shows in the past and continues to inspire the world's writers and creators today. One such writer is Thomas Harris who made Florence one of the locations in his famous tales of Hannibal Lecter which then went on to be adapted into an immensely popular series of movies. In the movie, “The Silence of The Lambs,” Florence is first visible through a sketch done by Lecter which is on display in the prison cell in which he is being held in Memphis. It depicts the skyline over the city as seen from Forte Belvedere.
Ponte Vecchio
However, the second portion of the film ventures into the city itself and reveals more of it to us.

If you're a big fan of the movie, you can actually follow it around, just find a luxury villa in Florence and explore the sites used and mentioned for yourself!

Hannibal's itinerary of Florence, as it happens, actually takes in some of the most important and interesting spots in the city and makes it easy to fit in alongside a regular tourist exploration of the area.
Santa Croce
For example, by the church of Santa Maria is the lesser-known Santa Maria Novella Pharmacy which is one of the longest-running pharmacies in the world and somewhere that you can buy traditional products still made by the monks.

In the film, this site is the location where Lecter buys aromatic products for the FBI agent, Clarice, with whom he is infatuated.

The goldsmith’s shops located in the Ponte Vecchio bridge are also a prominent feature in the film and are a great place to visit for the artisans, views and unique architectural setting of the stores within the bridge.

Other locations which are visited during the course of the film include the cloister of Santa Croce, the church of Santa Croce itself, the Piazza della Signoria, the Porcellino Fountain and the builidng of the La Nazione newspaper in addition to several other streets and squares. In fact, he even lives in a very historic and beautiful building. Palazzo Capponi, a 16th century palace featuring frescoes by Ghirlandaio himself, was made his home in Florence in both the books and movie after it captured the hearts of both the author and director.

Merely an extra to enhance your trip of Florence, visiting these sites with that famous fictional fright in mind will shed them in a new light and add a creepy note to a visit coming up to Hallowe'en!
