Spend A Few Days Exploring Siena Province

Piazza del Campo
Siena province would offer your vacation a fantastic array of exciting places to see and things to do. Why not choose from a stunning range of holiday rentals in the Siena area and begin your trip by visiting Siena city.

There are many enticing monuments and cultural attractions to see in the province’s capital so perhaps the best place to start is the magnificent oval shaped Piazza del Campo. Framed by buildings like the Palazzo Pubblico and the Torre del Mangia, visitors are sure to lose themselves as they gaze around this curved piazza of such beauty!

If you’re in Siena around the dates of the 2nd July and 16th August then you’ll be able to witness the famous Palio di Siena, one of the most exciting events in the entire Italian calendar! This thrilling horse racing event takes place in Piazza del Campo which is covered in sand and each of the city’s districts are represented by a horse and jockey.
Crete senesi and Monte Oliveto Abbey
Things can get pretty rough as they race around the track and strangely, it’s the horse that wins the race, not the jockey so if one was to be unfortunately knocked off during the race, as long as his horse crosses the line first, their district will win! The prize is a colourful banner called the Palio. This exciting event is both preceded and followed by feasting, music, dancing and numerous outdoor activities which tourists would adore to be a part of!

If you’d like to get out of the busy Siena city for a few days then why not rent a car and drive to some of the province’s most charming towns and villages.

Begin your delightful day trip with a visit to the UNESCO awarded town of Pienza. Notable attractions here include the Palazzo Piccolomini and the quaint little romantic streets here. Nearby to Pienza is the quaint town of Asciano which is located in the Crete Senesi. This area contains unusual geological formations and has greyish clay like soil which at night contrasts beautifully with the red brick building of Monte Oliveto Maggiore Abbey.
Sant'Antimo Abbey in Siena
Dip into the thermal waters of a hot spring in Bagno Vignoni, a spa town in Siena province to take away all the aches of travelling before going for a spot of lunch accompanied by the famous local red Brunello wine. Later why not head on to see the mesmerising castle of Montalcino before travelling to see the other inviting towns of Monteriggioni, San Quirico d’Orcia and of course the photogenic Sant’ Antimo Abbey.

As you can see, Siena province has a huge array of superb places to visit and things to see so why not book into a cosy luxury villa in the Siena area and soak up all the culture and beauty it has to offer!
