Located on Via Ricasoli, the Galleria dell ‘Accademia is adjoined to the academy of Fine Arts of Florence and was founded in 1784 by the Grand Duke of Tuscany called Pietro Leopoldo.

The Galleria dell’ Accademia houses some other stunning works of Michelangelo such as his ‘Prisoners’ sculpture project commissioned for the tomb of Pope Julius II.

They were unfortunately unfinished but art lovers will no doubt see the skilled touch of this Renaissance master for the amount he did complete.

One of his best known works, ‘David’ has a perfect replica which stands outside in Piazza della Signoria in front of Palazzo Vecchio.

More of his stunning works of art hang in Galleria dell’ Accademia as well as those from other endeared artists like Sandro Botticelli, Domenico Ghirlandaio and Paolo Uccello.

Tour around this mesmerising museum of Art in Florence which is open Tuesday to Sunday from 8.15am to 18.50 pm. It’s closed on Mondays and tickets cost only €8. The price is reduced to €4 for young children and the retired.
