Follonica: The Miami Of Tuscany

View of Follonica
The city of Follonica is often seen as the Miami of Tuscany by the locals in the Maremma area. The second biggest city in the region, it is located on the Tuscan coast and does somewhat mirror Miami with its modern, busy city centre that stretches right to the shore and the bright colours of the stark white buildings, blue sea, golden sand and colourful beach umbrellas.

If you're looking for a place with a vibrant setting and nightlife like that of Miami, paired with the delights and laid-back energy of Tuscany, then there is nowhere better! Whether you are looking to work on your tan and have a few cocktails, play in the water with your kids, go on adventures and try out water sports or visit churches and museums, try Tuscan cuisine, sample local wines or shop for a little of that typical Italian style, you can do it all here.

Just find a villa with pool in Follonica and discover a little Miami vice and Tuscan delights all in the one place!
Sunset in Follonica
Relaxation is the order of the day, every day in this city and you would be forgiven for thinking you've accidentally ended up on a tropical island. Locals take things easy with long lunches, naps and time on the beach before heading back to the office.

As a result, it really is a dream holiday destination, combining the best of a lot of worlds. If you're not interested in taking things too easy, however, there is plenty to see and do.

The city, in one form or another, has existed for thousands of years and began as an Etruscan settlement and built up slowly until it became the pet project of the Grand Duke Leopoldo II in the 19th century and large building works were undertaken.

Many buildings, therefore, demonstrate beautiful neoclassical design. Highlights of the city include the 9th century Castello di Valli, the Iron Museum, Manetti's Church of San Leopoldo, the Pievaccia fortified medieval monastery, the many beaches, sports such as sailing, scuba diving, walking, hiking, bicycling, tennis, skating, mini golf, soccer and horseback riding.

There is also a calendar of important traditional events to look forward to such as Carnival, the Palio and, in October, the Trofeo Maremma, one of the most important races of the Rally of Tuscany.

If you are looking for excitement in Tuscany, or for relaxation, nowhere else will cater to both in quite the same way as Follonica.
