Batzella Estate is a family-run winery established in 2000 by Khanh Nguyen and Franco Batzella who left careers in international finance to return to Italy and live out their passion for Italian wine. They chose the West Coast of Tuscany and set up in the prestigious Bolgheri appellation, founding the estate ex novo and planting a brand new vineyard of 7.5 hectares with mostly Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Merlot.

Both went back to school to learn how to run their estate themselves and received necessary technical training in Italy, France (at the University of Bordeaux) and the US (at UC Davis), with Khanh even obtaining a Masters degree in Vineyard and Winery Management at the University of Milano. They decided to keep their farm relatively small in order to allow their creativity to have space to thrive.
The estate produces nine different wines, including seven Bolgheri DOC reds that are blends of Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc, two white wines, and two grappas in addition to the wines. Both the wines and estate have gained much international acclaim and the pretty winery can be visited for tours and tastings, as well as other special events. Tours take you through the whole wine-making process from vineyard to cellar to the tasting room or terrace (depending on the weather) with views of the vineyards and of Castagneto Carducci in the middle of the hills to sample their wines and grappas. These visits last from one to two hours, depending on your interest and the time you have available.
