This picturesque and fascinating little town has much more to offer than one might expect from foodie delights to cultural gems but it also has a range of incredible beaches in its immediate vicinity.
Among the beaches near Portoferraio, Sansone beach is a seriously pretty and charming option. Located on the road from Portoferraio to Enfola, it is framed by some of the typical white cliffs of the northern part of the island and is made up of bright white felsite pebbles lapped by perfectly clear blue waters that vary in shade, depending on the day, from navy to bright turquoise tones.
An ideal place for snorkelling but also perfect for both canoeing and swimming, it is a great choice for water sports enthusiasts. Conversely, it is also a brilliant gem for those looking to unwind as it is relatively secluded and, while it attracts crowds during the peak summer months, is generally not as busy as some beaches in the area. Plus, as we always say, if you go earlier or later in the day or just outside the main tourism season of the summer months, you’re always more likely to have most beaches to yourself (or you won’t have to share it with endless hoards, at least).
