Planning on spending Christmas in Tuscany this year? Well, browse our villas in Tuscany and come enjoy the incredible food and wine, the charming towns made prettier by lights and cheer, the traditional Christmas markets that take over historic centres across the region, the festive spirit, the beautiful churches and Nativity scenes, the unique traditions, and more that is on offer to those who choose to experience a Tuscan Christmas.
If you’re in the region on Christmas Eve and you’re looking for something extra-special to do, head to the beautiful medieval town of Monteriggioni. Perched on a hillside overlooking lush valleys, forests, and fields and ringed by its ancient medieval walls and watch towers, this is a beyond picturesque Tuscan town and, each Christmas Eve, it hosts a magical event.

Starting at the castle (dating all the way back to the 1200s), visitors can head on a special walk through the woods from 9pm that night. The way is lit by hundreds of torches and follows the via Francigena road, the region’s most famous historic pilgrimage trail.
Winding through the woods and the fields with many others and with the torchlight flickering, those joining in will follow the route for 4km before finishing in the town of Abbadia a Isola, at the Abbey of Santi Salvatore and Cirino, where a Christmas Eve mass will take place. A lovely example of a Romanesque church, it is a gorgeous place to celebrate a Christmas mass, even if you are not Christian or religious. Those who want to just enjoy the walk and their own thoughts and spiritual experience without attending the mass could also choose to do so.

With so many traditions and experiences unique to the region, a Christmas in Tuscany is a rather special thing. Enjoy the wonders of this time of the year in this magical part of the world by booking your holiday rental in Tuscany for Christmas now – there’s still time but book fast!
