Wonderous Moments

In 2009 Tuscany played host to my holiday of a lifetime. This was not just because of Tuscany itself; the emotional sunsets, the hills, the wines, the warmth and the life, but something about that particular moment in time in the lives of all of us present.
We were four girlfriends all going through phases of change in our lives, changes which have been for the better but which mean that we will never be able to go back to that single moment in time where we were all free and unsure of what was just around the corner.
The villa we stayed in was a dream, made all the better by the fact that our neighbours were the sort of tourists that we were not; up at the crack of dawn and out to tourist their way through the beautiful towns and hills, leaving us with a pool and a view all our own.
We lounged, we ate, we drank, we were present and building friendships which will remain with us forever.
There was “beer o’clock”; just in time to start the lunch preparation.
There was “volley-ball” in the pool; a hilarious display of splashing and unleashing of our inner child.
There was my “wasp friend” who got too friendly down my bikini top.
There was the text message from someone I hadn’t heard from in years, someone who three years later would be proposing to me in a vineyard just down the road
There was San Gimignano. Oh, San Gimigniano, thou art truly beautiful – yet after a half hour wonder we just needed one look to know that where we wanted to be was by our pool again. Because that’s what this holiday was about; the natural beauty of the countryside, our temporary home and our most wonderful of friendships.
