Montaione village is very famous for its glass making industry, one that dates as far back as the 13th century! They are particularly well known for their bottle and decanter designs.
If you have an interest in the history of Montaione glass making and of the area then take a walk around the beautiful museum in the village’s 15th century Palazzo del Podesta.
It displays many artefacts unearthed by archaeologists in the area which date back as far as Palaeolithic times. There’s also a remarkable whale fossil skeleton here!
