It dates as far back as 1060 and was likely constructed over what was once an Etruscan site of worship in the 6th century BC.
Inside are some ornate sacred paintings and sculptures made by notable Tuscan artists. The bell tower of the Sanctuary dates back to the 13th century and has its own interesting history to tell which can be discovered at the adjacent town museum.
Also here is the display of one of Europe’s oldest surviving textile artefacts which is a patchwork cushion known as the ‘Impruneta Cushion’.
