The excellent Palazzo BLU museum in Pisa is frequently home to some of the most incredible exhibitions in Italy and is always a must for art lovers who have found a vacation rental in Pisa. That is as true as ever at the moment with the “Da Magritte a Duchamp” (From Magritte to Duchamp) exhibition that is currently on show in the gallery.
Opened on the 11th of October and running into February of next year, it is the second collaboration with the Centre Georges Pompidou in Paris and MondoMostre after 2015's “Modigliani et ses amis” exhibition, which brought over 110,000 visitors to the Palazzo BLU.

A fitting way to make the 10th anniversary of Palazzo BLU Foundation, this exhibition was curated by Didier Ottinger, Deputy director of the National Center of Art and Culture Georges-Pompidou and one of the leading specialists in the world of Magritte, Picasso and Surrealism as a movement.
It showcases about 150 works, including sculptures, surrealist objects, drawings, collages, installations and photographs and explains the key year of 1929 in the context of the Surrealist movement.
There are works on display by the likes of René Magritte, Salvador Dalí, Marcel Duchamp, Max Ernst, Giorgio De Chirico, Alberto Giacometti, Man Ray, Joan Miró, Yves Tanguy, Pablo Picasso and many others and it is a rather extraordinary collection of masterpieces under one roof. Among the pieces, some stand-outs include the large and striking 'Le double secret' by Margritte as well as his "Le modèle rouge"; Dali's “Cheval”, “Dormeuse”, “Lion invisibles” and “L'âne pourri”; Duchamp's irreverent and iconic “LHOOQ”, which reimagines the Mona Lisa with a mustache and goatee; sculptures by Alberto Giacometti and Man Ray; collages by Max Ernst; wire masks by Alexandre Calder; paintings by Mirò, Picasso, and De Chirico; and surrealist photography by artists such as Jean Painlevé, Man Ray, Lotar, Boiffard, Brassaï, and Claude Cahun.
A key exhibition that is not to be missed if you have found a vacation rental in Tuscany and are planning a trip in the coming months!
