For those dreaming of the true elegance of a Tuscan escape and impossibly picturesque postcard-perfect scenery all around, Villa Il Colto is an ideal location. This newly listed vacation rental in Tuscany is perched on a hill that was once home to a rich patrician abode in the time of the Ancient Romans and continues to play host to a stunning countryside getaway to this day. The current iteration of this Arcadian gem, due to its hilltop location, is thought to have been a look out tower for a nearby castle before being transformed into a family villa that was once owned by the famous Medici family. So, not only is this beauty positioned among the most magical Tuscan surroundings but it is also steeped in local history and tradition.

Villa Il Colto today is a six-bedroom villa with five bathrooms that is spread over three floors. It boasts spacious interiors that are typically Tuscan and have lots of lovely features as well as gorgeous grounds with areas to relax and dine al fresco, a private swimming pool, a hot tub, and more.

However, one of the best features of Villa Il Colto is its location. Not only does its elevated position in a lovely and pastoral part of the famously beautiful Tuscan countryside mean that guests can enjoy dreamy views all throughout their stay but it is also located in an ideal spot for making the most of your time in Tuscany. Florence and her famous attractions and Chianti and her wineries are both about 35 minutes away. The pretty medieval town of Arezzo is just half an hour away and the renowned historic beauty of Siena is just an hour away. Plus, while there are scenic countryside views, the villa is actually located in the centre of the little town of Terranuova Bracciolini, allowing you to enjoy the convenience of shops, restaurants, and bars on your doorstep. So, even if you don’t plan on going very far on a given day, you still can grab something to eat nearby and you don’t need to get into a car for everything!

It would be understandable, in fact, if there were days where you couldn’t prise yourself away from the villa itself. Surrounded by two hectares of manicured grounds, with the gardens extending down the slopes of the hill and to pretty olive groves and orchards, there are plenty of lovely outdoor spaces to relax, unwind, and make the most of the magical setting. Lush lawns, ample plants and flowers, and a garden of rare species including Lebanese lime trees, ancient cypresses, and more planted by a former owner who was a botanical expert, mean that this really is an especially lovely garden.

In addition, the villa boasts a heated private swimming pool surrounded by loungers and parasols, a hot tub, and an outdoor shower for your convenience. For making the most of your time al fresco, there is a large and shaded panoramic sun terrace with areas to lounge with a glass of wine or enjoy full meals, an outdoor BBQ, and lots of little spots to sit out around the house and throughout the manicured gardens.

When we go indoors, we find an equally charming and well-equipped space. The open-plan ground floor boasts original features including large brick arches, exposed stone walls, and a massive old fireplace in the living room. While these original features and the use of antiques and works of art throughout lend a wonderful traditional character and sense of charm to the space, all of the mod-cons you could need are also included.

Off this open-plan space you will find a bathroom, a service room with an iron, washing machine, and dryer, and the impressive kitchen. Again, full of Tuscan touches and charm, this large and welcoming kitchen is also well-equipped with a large sink, ample counter space, a dining table that can seat all 12 guests, dishwasher, fridge-freezer, microwave, stove top, oven, Italian coffee machine, American coffee machine, and air conditioning. In fact, air-conditioning is available in all of the living spaces and all of the bedrooms, for your comfort even during the warmest months of the year.

On the first floor, there is another living room with armchairs, a sofa, and fireplace, two double bedrooms with en suite bathrooms, two bedrooms with twin beds, a double bedroom, two bathrooms, and an office. Then, on the second floor, there is one more bedroom with twin beds.

Superbly equipped for a large group, the house also benefits from the fact that one of the owners lives on the property in an adjacent barn, so there is always someone nearby if you need anything. Additional services offered at this property upon request and at an additional fee including cooking lessons with an experienced Tuscan cook, professional chef services so you can enjoy incredible meals made with fresh local produce according to your needs and dietary requirements in the comfort of your home away from home, personalised tours, maid services, and a pre-stocked fridge upon your arrival.
