Why not stretch your legs in the lively town of Monticiano?

This pretty part of Siena province is situated on the right bank of the Val di Merse and is included in the Metalliferous Hills nature area that is bordered by several regions.

Visit the local ‘Buca dei Falchi’, a huge cave full of stalactites and stalagmites for a few hours or stroll along the many guided walking, cycling or horse riding tours available around this picturesque town.

The ancient hamlet of Castello di Tocchi is only a few minutes’ walk away and would be the perfect setting to enjoy a picnic meal as you gaze around the peaceful environment of colourful flowers and trees. Sit back and relax in the healing thermal springs of Bagni di Petriolo, a frazioni of Monticiano which is very popular with tourists.

Visit the lively town of Vernio during a day trip of Prato province. This charming commune is situated about 20 kilometres north of Prato and is actually a union of three villages and their frazioni. They are called San Quirico, Mercatale and Sant ‘Ippolito.

Stop off in the quaint town of Poggio a Caiano on your next vacation to Prato province in Tuscany. Stay in a quaint vacation rental in Carmignano which is only four kilometres away

It’s situated around nine kilometres south of Prato and is made up of ten frazioni including Calcinaia and Poggetto. One of the main sights to see in Poggio a Caiano is the lavish Medici villa.

In 1473 this ruined shell of a house was bought by Lorenzo de’ Medici. It was redesigned to have a quadrangular base around a huge central hall with windows all around overlooking the tranquil countryside.

If you’re touring around the small province of Prato on your next Tuscan holiday then be sure to include Vaiano on your day trip itinerary.

Situated around ten kilometres north of Prato and 25 kilometres north-west of Florence, this pretty little commune actually encompasses a quaint collection of villages and hamlets.

Some of them are called Sofignano, Fabio, La Foresta and Parmigno. Vaiano borders the neighbouring communes of Barberino di Mugello and Montemurlo. There is a huge collection of religious buildings across the municipality of Vaiano.

Montemurlo is a splendid town in Prato province which closely borders the province and town of Pistoia and is only 20 kilometres north-west of Florence.

Stay in a cosy vacation villa in Pistoia where you can easily visit Montemurlo and other communes in the area.

It’s situated in idyllic surroundings just on the edge of the Tuscan-Emilian Apennines. Built on Monte Le Cavallaie whose peak is 976 metres high, Montemurlo would be a superb stop off on a tourist day trip of the province.
