Wine
If you have found a vacation rental in Tuscany and are planning on exploring the region, you can't forget to thoroughly discover the culinary landscape. Food and wine are integral to the Tuscan experience and we have discussed wines and vineyards and wine shops on this blog on several occasions. However, we thought that it was only fitting to finally put together a guide to the wines of Tuscany; the ones you won't want to miss and where to find them. Here is our guide to more of the Tuscan wines that you need to try!

7. Vino Nobile di Montepulciano

Vino Nobile di Montepulciano is a red wine with a Denominazione di Origine Controllata e Garantita status that is produced in and around the town of Montepulciano. Made primarily from the Sangiovese grape varietal, it is aged for at least 2 years before sale.
Records of this wine date back to the Middle Ages and was praised by the poet Francesco Redi in the 17th century in an ode in his correspondance to Count Federico Veterani. Named Vino Nobile di Montepulciano in the 1930s, its prestige continued over the centuries into the modern day. Just find a luxury villa in Montepulciano and come try the many varieties available for yourself.

8. Morellino di Scansano

This DOCG is a red made in the hilly surroundings of the village of Scansano, in the Maremma area of Tuscany. The tradition of winemaking in this region is incredibly old but obscure. Granted DOC status in 1978 and then upgraded to DOCG status beginning with the 2007 vintage, it is made from at least 85% Sangiovese grapes and 15% non-aromatic black grape varieties. It does not need to age in wood and can be released in March after harvest. Therefore, it is released quickly and is known to be fresh and satisfying. For those interested in trying a more obscure and lesser-known wine, it is a must. Just find a vacation rental in Maremma and try it out!

Of course, there are many more wonderful Tuscan wines to enjoy while exploring the region, so be sure to read on to the rest of the series for our other picks.
